Black Friday is Friday, November 27 and Cyber Monday is Monday, November 30. Plenty of the "deals" will be ordinary prices with a bigger struck-through number next to them. Here is how to tell, and, once the sales start, the ones we have confirmed.

How to tell a real Black Friday deal from a fake one

- Ignore the struck-through "was". It is often a price the product almost never sold at.
- Compare with its own usual price. A real deal sits clearly below what the product normally costs.
- Watch for a price that went up first. A product that climbed in the weeks before Black Friday can be "discounted" back to its old price. A year of prices shows it.
- Check how rare the price is. Near its lowest price of the year is a BUY; a price it hits every month is not special.
- Doorbusters are the exception, not the rule. A headline deal on one model does not make every product on the page a deal.
